Rene Churchill is a sculptural artist based in Kansas City, with roots in Southern California and a BFA expected in 2027 from the Ceramics Department of the Kansas City Art Institute. He has worked in multiple studios as an instructor and assistant, such as Belger Crane Yard Studios and has been shown in galleries such as Kansas City Artist Coalition and the Waiting Room Gallery.
Rene’s work is inspired by the speed and amorphous nature of modern life and the culture and media that is growing and evolving alongside it. Dynamic, stark, and sometimes violent imagery from popular media such as manga or video games are mixed with an abstract visual style combining series-based illustrative ceramic slabs, mixed media sculptures, and gypsum casting to create a series of works that interrogate anthropology through an abstract, manga-inspired lens.
Upon completion of his BFA this summer, Rene plans on developing his technical and conceptual skills, remaining in Kansas City or at residencies before pursuing an MFA.
